The U.S. Department of Transportation tentatively rejected a Delta/Virgin Blue transpacific antitrust immunity application

The two airlines in December obtained regulatory approval from Australian authorities, but DOT "tentatively concluded that Delta and the Virgin Blue Group had not demonstrated that the alliance would produce sufficient public benefits to justify a grant of antitrust immunity" according to a statement. DOT said it would issue a final ruling after a 14-day public comment period.
