The Dutch government plans to abolish a tax on passengers departing from airports in the Netherlands

. First announced in 2007 and imposed in mid-2008, the tax drew condemnation from European airlines. Ryanair welcomed the Dutch decision to end the tax and "called again on the Irish and U.K. governments to follow this example and scrap the Irish tourist tax and [British Prime Minister] Gordon Brown's £10 airport tax."
