Southwest Airlines in August had the best on-time performance, 77.7 percent, among the 11 major U.S. carriers
. It was followed by Frontier Airlines and Continental Airlines. United Airlines posted the worst performance among major carriers, 66.2 percent. Overall, the U.S. airline industry achieved an August on-time performance of 72.7 percent, higher than in July 2007 but lower than in Aug. 2006.
