Southwest Airlines improved second-quarter net profitability to $228 million from $161 million a year earlier.
Excluding one-time items, net income "more than doubled" to a "record" $273 million, according to chairman and CEO Gary Kelly. He cited "record revenues driven by steady growth." Revenue performance included a 4.7 percent increase in average passenger fare to $150.31 and an 11.5 percent jump in total passenger revenue to $4.34 billion.
