Southwest Airlines announced a fourth-quarter net profit of $116 million, improving on a $56 million net loss from a year earlier.
The company's full-year 2009 profit slid to $99 million from $178 million in 2008. "There is no doubt 2010 will be another challenging year," according to Southwest CEO Gary Kelly. "Thus far, the economic recovery is tepid."
