President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood laid out plans for "high-speed rail lines from city to city
." The Administration proposed to apply $9 billion in federal funds over the next five years to create high-speed networks within corridors of 100 miles to 600 miles. Advocating "clean, energy-efficient transportation," Obama said, "High-speed rail is long-overdue."
