Oneworld airline alliance partners American Airlines, Iberia, Finnair, Malev and Royal Jordanian moved to "dismiss their application" to the U.S. Department of Transportation for an antitrust-immunized partnership

. DOT last month said it would not complete its review of the application unless the carriers provided additional information. The oneworld members filed for immunity in July 2007as a means to "remain competitive with other transatlantic alliances" and ensure "long-term competitive viability" for Iberia, Finnair, Malev and Royal Jordanian. The partners did not explain the reason behind the request for dismissal, and AA spokespersons did not return calls seeking comment. Not part of the oneworld application, British Airways last month confirmed it is "exploring opportunities for cooperation with American Airlines and Continental Airlines." The latter is a current member of the rival SkyTeam alliance.
