Most major domestic airlines this weekend hiked published fares between $4 and $10 roundtrip
, depending on length of haul, according to FareCompare.com. Delta last night became the latest carrier to match the hike, initiated on Friday by Southwest and since matched by American, Continental, Frontier, United and US Airways. "Legacy airline matching as well as participation by Southwest virtually assures this hike will stick," FareCompare.com reported. The fare hike is the first of 2011 and third in the past month.
