Major U.S. network airlines increased many domestic fares by $20 to $40 roundtrip
, following a $10 to $20 hike initiated by Southwest Airlines, according to FareCompare's Rick Seaney. The price action represented the 20th attempted airfare hike during the first half of 2008 compared with 23 attempted throughout all of 2007, Seaney wrote on his Web site.
