Major U.S. carriers matched a Delta Air Lines one-way domestic fare hike of $5
, marking the fifth successful industry price increase in 10 attempts this year, according to JPMorgan Securities analyst Jamie Baker. An email alert from air pricing watcher FareCompare noted how some airlines had partially rolled back their fare increases but that "a significant number of passengers are paying $10 roundtrip more than they did" last week. Meanwhile, Baker suggested the possibility of "a sixth potential 2007 fare increase from Southwest Airlines this Thanksgiving."
