JetBlue Airways reported a fourth-quarter pre-tax loss of $49 million
compared with a $3 million pre-tax loss from the prior year. The result was dragged down by "a special non-cash charge of $53 million related to the valuation of JetBlue's auction rate securities." The company's full-year 2008 pre-tax loss was $76 million versus a pre-tax profit of $41 million in 2007. JetBlue's average fourth-quarter fare was $141.37, up 8 percent year over year.
