Jeff Smisek has resigned as chairman, president, CEO and director of United Continental Holdings,
prompted by an internal investigation coinciding with a federal probe into corruption within The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. United Continental announced Smisek’s resignation today, along with those of its executive vice president of communications and government affairs and senior vice president of corporate and government affairs. All are effective immediately, and the company named Oscar Munoz president and CEO. Munoz, who has sat on the board since 2010 and will continue to do so, most recently served as president and COO of CSX.
