Domestic U.S. airline passenger yield in February declined by 8.7 percent
year over year to 13.52 cents per mile, marking the largest monthly decrease since October 2004, according to the Air Transport Association. Defined as the "average price someone pays to fly one mile excluding government taxes and fees," yield also decreased on Atlantic routes by 10.7 percent--the largest monthly decline since February 2002--on Pacific routes by 2.9 percent and on Latin American routes by 2.3 percent. Overall, U.S. carriers in February handled 12 percent fewer travelers and generated 19 percent less passenger revenue.
