Department of Transportation fined Delta $375,000 for violating federal rules regarding bumped passengers
The U.S. on oversold flights. According to DOT, when flight are oversold, airlines must seek volunteers or give involuntary bumped passengers cash compensation and "a written statement describing their rights and explaining how it decides who will be bumped from an oversold flight." DOT found "a number of instances" between January to July 2008 where Delta "did not follow one or more of the provisions of the oversales rules."
