Delta Air Lines and Virgin Blue announced plans for a joint venture to expand services between the United States and Australia
and "compete more effectively" on transpacific routes. The two carriers said they would file antitrust immunity applications with U.S. and Australian regulators, and pending government approval, begin to coordinate route planning, code shares and frequent flyer program links.
