Delta Air Lines and American Airlines will end their interline agreement for ticketing and baggage on Tuesday.
The agreement, in place for decades, allowed passengers to book multisegment tickets across the two airlines and enabled the carriers to rebook passengers on each other’s flights during irregular operations, such as inclement weather. American declined Delta's proposal to increase their reciprocal payment per passenger for reaccommodation. Last month, United Airlines and Delta reached an agreement that raises their reaccommodation payment. Delta and American could revisit discussions, but Delta has noted that “the industry agreement [with American] was no longer beneficial to both carriers,” adding that in July, American sent five times as many passengers to Delta as Delta did to American.
