Continental Airlines posted a second-quarter net loss of $213 million
versus a net loss of $5 million a year earlier. The carrier collected 24 percent less passenger revenue and cited "significant declines in high yield traffic as many business travelers curtailed travel or purchased lower yield economy tickets due to the weakened economy." The company announced it would cut an additional 1,700 positions and raised by $5 fees for domestic checked baggage fees (unless prepaid online) and telephone reservations.
