Continental Airlines formally announced plans for nonstop service to London Heathrow Airport from both Newark and Houston
, effective 29 March 2008 and pending government approval. Continental said it acquired "the necessary slots at Heathrow," which were unavailable before the United States and Europe signed a new aviation pact earlier this year.
