British Airways confirmed that it and other carriers are under investigation
by the United Kingdom's Office of Fair Trading and the United States Department of Justice regarding "alleged cartel activity ... in relation to pricing of passenger air transportation, including fuel surcharges." According to published reports, American Airlines, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic said they were cooperating with the investigation but did not confirm whether they were targets. Along with BA, those carriers are the only ones operating nonstop transatlantic service between London Heathrow and U.S. airports.
