Bankrupt Northwest Airlines reported a first-quarter net loss of $292 million
, compared with a $1.1 billion loss a year earlier. Excluding reorganization and other one-time items, the company achieved a $100 million pre-tax profit, its first for the first quarter since 1998. Passenger revenue increased 7.5 percent to $2.2 billion. Northwest said its creditors will vote by May 7 on the company's reorganization plan, and that it would emerge from bankruptcy protection in June.
