Amtrak said it launched Wi-Fi service on Acela trains between Boston and Washington and in gate areas of six major stations, free of charge for an introductory period
. Four ClubAcela lounges also are part of the "initially" complimentary offer, which "will be reviewed based on customer demand and system performance." Amtrak said on-board Wi-Fi "typically outperforms cellular air cards and smart phones," and is compatible with "most" standard corporate networks. Gate-area coverage is available at Baltimore Penn Station, New York Penn Station, Philadelphia 30th Street Station, Providence Station, Route 128 Station in Boston and Washington Union Station. Service at Wilmington Station awaits the completion of station renovations in early 2011.
