Amtrak broke a record for ridership in fiscal 2008, carrying 28,716,407 passengers
during the 12 months ending in September, an 11 percent increase over the prior year. "Total ticket revenue for the fiscal year reached $1.7 billion, a 14.2 percent increase over the $1.5 billion in FY07," the rail line said. "Acela Express grew trips by 6.5 percent with 3.3 million passengers and a nearly 16 percent increase in revenue to $468 million." The Northeast region generated the most revenue at $863.4 million, 14.6 percent higher than the prior year.
