American Airlines raised its 2009 mainline capacity reduction to 7.5 percent
versus last year, up from the previous 6.5 percent reduction plan. In the second half of 2009, domestic mainline capacity will be down 15.5 percent year over year and international capacity will be down 5.5 percent. The airline also announced plans to cut 1,600 positions.
