American Airlines intends to add five to seven minutes to many of its published flight times this fall to minimize reported delays

, according to Bloomberg News. David Cush, senior vice president of global sales, told Bloombergthat the extra minutes would be added to "virtually all" flights from the carrier's hubs in Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago, as well as certain flights from other cities. Overall, "block times," or the amount of time allotted for a flight, are up 10 percent from 1997, according to the Wall Street Journal.
