The average airfare sold through mega travel agencies in April dropped 4.4 percent year over year to $766, according to ARC.
Excluding taxes, the average aggregate airfare sold through American Express, BCD Travel, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Expedia's Egencia, Hogg Robinson Group and Omega World Travel now has declined versus the prior year in 10 consecutive months. The April decline was the largest since September 2012. Based on information provided to BTN from ARC's AeroTrend analytical tool, average April fares also were down across other agency categories, falling 2.9 percent year over year to $373 among "online" agencies, which include various leisure-oriented sales outlets as well as Travelocity Business and Orbitz for Business, and 2.7 percent to $623 among agencies classified in the "other" category.
