Second-quarter earnings for Expedia's Egencia nearly doubled from a year earlier,
to $18 million before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Egencia's revenue soared 60 percent year over year to $76 million and gross bookings increased 37 percent to $755 million, while Expedia's leisure segment posted such increases of 11 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Quarterly figures include the impact of the May 2012 acquisition of Via Travel, which Egencia has described as "the largest travel management company in the Nordics." According to Expedia, Via "added approximately 2 percent" to both total gross bookings and revenue growth figures, and also was the primary driver behind a 3 percent increase in total air tickets sold. "All other revenue (excluding hotel and air) increased 17 percent for the second quarter of 2012 through strong growth in corporate travel fees—partially due to the Via Travel acquisition—and advertising revenue," Expedia added, noting that Egencia also "saw strong growth in certain international markets, such as Germany which showed a 44 percent year-over-year improvement in second-quarter gross bookings, excluding the impacts of foreign exchange."
