Average trip costs incurred by Travel Leaders Corporate clients during the second quarter declined versus the prior-year period.
The travel management company reported that combined air, car and hotel costs on average totaled $965 for domestic trips and $2,398 for international ones, down about 2 percent and 6 percent, respectively. In the United States, the average airfare ($443), daily car rental rate ($42) and daily hotel room rate ($144) each were within a few dollars of figures calculated for the second quarter of 2012. For international trips, the average airfare dropped about 5 percent to $1,624. Average car rental and hotel rates in non-U.S. destinations declined $2 year over year, to $50 and $214, respectively. Meanwhile, on airline flights of at least seven hours, Travel Leaders Corporate clients in the second quarter booked first class for 9 percent of trips, business class for 23 percent, premium-coach for 20 percent and coach for 48 percent. According to Travel Leaders Corporate President David Holyoke, premium-coach especially is popular for flights from the U.S. East Coast to London.
