The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Travel Promotion Act of 2008

. The legislation would "establish a non-profit corporation to communicate United States entry policies and otherwise promote tourist, business and scholarly travel to the United States." The Travel Industry Associationapplauded the House passage and called on the U.S. Senate to "act quickly to reverse the decline in overseas visitation to the United States and utilize the power of travel to strengthen the American economy."
