The U.S. Department of Defense selected Citibank as its travel charge card provider

. Citibank is one of four vendors participating in the U.S. General Services Administration's SmartPay 2 programcovering all U.S. government charge card activities. DoD, which accounted for 61 percent of all government travel spending in 2006, plans to supply new cards to 1.2 million card holders by Nov. 30, 2008. Replacing an existing contract with Bank of America, the 10-year program is expected to accommodate $40 billion in travel spending.
