Amadeus IT Holding during the September quarter processed 307.7 million total air travel agency bookings, up 5.4 percent year over year.
The company claimed a 37.2 percent global market share of such bookings, up 0.9
percentage points from a year earlier. Amadeus added that total bookings
through all global distribution systems increased 3.3 percent in the quarter,
stronger than the 2.2 percent year-to-date growth it reported. It noted
"significant underperformance experienced in the United States, and to a
lesser extent in Western Europe, the two largest markets, representing more
than 60 percent of the industry." Discussing overall air traffic trends,
president and CEO Luis Maroto this week told analysts and media that Amadeus
has observed "a decrease [in growth] in the U.S. that started in the third
quarter of 2010, and also a slowdown in China." The company announced a
third-quarter adjusted profit of €136.8 million, up 37 percent year over year.
Total revenue, excluding the impact of divestitures, increased 4.6 percent.
