AA To Develop New Passenger IT System With Hewlett-Packard
American Airlines parent AMR Corp. today announced it would create a new passenger-service technology system with Hewlett-Packard, spurning longtime partner Sabre and other technology forms with solutions specific to the travel industry. The system will be rolled out in the next four years.
The new system, dubbed Jetstream, will handle AA reservations, pricing and ticketing, inventory, flight information and checkin, officials said, and "will serve as the foundation to deliver innovative online and mobile travel tools."
"This relationship pairs American, an information technology pioneer in the aviation industry, with HP, a world-renowned technology pioneer," Arpey said. "The current Passenger Service System has served us well for many decades and remains among one of the most reliable."
The new system will replace many functions currently provided by Sabre, the travel technology firm that began a half-century ago as American's first in-house computerized booking system.
"American appreciates and values its long-standing relationship with Sabre," the carrier said in a statement. "American remains a committed customer of Sabre, using many of the company's airline-related products—such as those for flight operations, inflight provisioning, ground movement monitoring and airport staff management—and is considering other Sabre products and services."
