Asia-Pacific dominated the 2025 world's busiest airline
routes, according to OAG's annual report, released Monday.
The region captured nine out of the 10 busiest, with the
South Korean domestic route Jeju to Seoul on top, with 14.4 million seats
scheduled, up 1 percent year over year. The route, however, remains 17 percent
short of its capacity level from 2019, according to OAG.
Next in the rankings were two domestic Japanese routes, with
flights between Tokyo Haneda and each Sapporo New Chitose at No. 2, and Fukuoka
at No. 3.
The single route outside of Asia-Pacific was between Jeddah
and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, coming in at fifth with 9.8 million seats, which
represented an increase of 13 percent year over year, according to OAG.
For cross-border routes, Hong Kong-Taipei was the business
with 6.8 million seats, followed by Cairo-Jeddah with 5.8 million seats and
Kuala Lumpur-Singapore with 5.6 million seats. The only North American route
that made the Top 10 cross-border routes was between New York-JFK and London Heathrow, coming in
10th with nearly 4 million seats.
U.S. Busiest Domestic Routes
The route between New York JFK and Los Angeles was the
business in 2025 for U.S. domestic flights, at more than 3.4 million seats.
Capacity on this route grew 9 percent year over year, but remains 20 percent
lower than in 2019, according to OAG.
The second-place New York LaGuardia-Chicago O'Hare route had
3.3 million seats, a 7 percent increase year over year, yet it, too, remains
below 2019 levels, by 13 percent.
The Denver-Phoenix route at sixth "stood out" to
OAG, which noted its 3.1 million seats was 3 percent lower than those scheduled
in 2024, but that figure is 23 percent above 2019 levels.
