United Airlines and Azul Brazilian Airlines have formed a partnership that includes codesharing and loyalty-program reciprocation,
the carriers announced Friday. United will acquire a 5 percent stake in Azul for $100 million. Pending government approval, United will codeshare on Azul’s flights within Brazil and to Florida from São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport, and Azul will codeshare on United flights in North America and the Caribbean. The carriers say the partnership also will improve connections and baggage transfers at Guarulhos. Members of United’s MileagePlus and Azul’s TudoAzul will earn mileage and benefits on both airlines.
