Travel managers are most challenged by being perceived as "the bad guy" by business travelers asked to comply with corporate travel policy
, according to a study by Carlson Wagonlit Travel. Providing an online self-booking option was cited as the most effective means for fostering compliance. Travelers most often said non-reimbursement is the most important ramification for non-compliance, and said the most likely reason for booking outside of policy is "the preferred airline's scheduled flight times do not meet my business needs." Fifty-five percent said they book outside of policy at least once a year. Meanwhile, travel managers most often said customer service is a very important attribute in evaluating travel service providers (89 percent), followed by experience (82 percent), access to all airline inventory (80 percent), data reporting (74 percent), price (70 percent) and traveler tracking (61 percent). The CWT Business Traveler Indicator compiled responses from 650 travel managers and 2,100 business travelers in 12 countries.
