Lyft is requiring drivers and passengers to wear facial coverings as part of a new health and safety program announced this week.
Prior to each ride, both drivers and riders will be required to fill out a checklist indicating they will wear a mask, not ride if they are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, not have passengers in the front seat and ride with windows open and avoid recirculated air when possible. Riders and drivers who do not agree to all items will not be able to book a ride with Lyft.
Lyft did not immediately indicate when the new requirement would take effect.
In Uber's earnings call on Thursday, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said Uber was "working through plans" to introduce a mask requirement for "certain countries, including the U.S."
