U.S. airlines bumped 0.34 per 10,000 passengers in 2017, its
lowest annual rate since tracking began in 1995, according to the U.S.
Department of Transportation. In the fourth quarter, they bumped 0.18 per
10,000 passengers, down from 0.55 in the fourth quarter of 2016. Baggage
handling also improved in 2017. Carriers reported 2.46 mishandled bags per
10,000, down from 2.7 in 2016.
