Instances of involuntary denied boarding on U.S.
airlines hit a historic low over the first half of this year, according to the Department
of Transportation. Carriers reported a bumping rate of 0.52 per 10,000
passengers from January through June, down from 0.62 in the first half of 2016
and the lowest rate for any six-month period dating back to 1995. Mishandled
bags also improved to 2.54 per 1,000 passengers, compared with 2.65 in the
first half of 2016.
