Airbus is ending production on its A380 aircraft now that Emirates has slashed its orders of the aircraft by 39. Emirates had been the largest customer by far of the aircraft, the world's largest passenger jet, and the carrier's decision to cut its order leaves Airbus with "no substantial A380 backlog and hence no basis to sustain production, despite all our sales efforts with other airlines in recent years," according to Airbus CEO Tom Enders. Airbus will continue deliveries of A380 aircraft, including 14 more to Emirates, until 2021. They will remain in airline fleets for years to come, "and Airbus will, of course, continue to fully support the A380 operators," Enders said. Emirates, meanwhile, has ordered 40 A330-900 and 30 A350-900 aircraft, which Airbus said will mitigate the as many as 3,500 jobs affected by the end of A380 production.
