U.S. airlines had fewer cancellations, delays
and complaints in June than a year prior, according to the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Reporting carriers got 78 percent of flights to the gate within
15 minutes of departure time, up from 74.8 percent in June 2015. Factors within
an airline's control, including maintenance and crew issues, delayed 6.1
percent of flights in June 2016, up from 4.6 percent in May. The carriers
canceled 1 percent of flights in June, a year-over-year improvement of 0.8 percentage
points. Carriers also improved the mishandled baggage rate from 3.47 reports
per 1,000 passengers in June 2015 to 2.82 reports in June 2016.
