Deutsche Lufthansa's executive board has agreed
to acquire the remaining 55 percent stake in Brussels Airlines for €2.6
million, fully integrating the carrier into the Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa
projects the transaction, approved
by its supervisory board this year, will close in early January. Lufthansa
chairman and CEO Carsten Spohr will join Brussels Airlines' board as co-chair
to assist with the integration, and Brussels Airlines CEO Bernard Gustin will
retain his role. Lufthansa bought
45 percent of Brussels Airlines in 2008, and the option to purchase the
remaining shares expires at the end of this year.
