American Express Global Commercial Services president Susan
Sobbott will leave the company on Feb. 1. Amex Global Corporate Services president
Steve Squeri, who will become Amex chairman and CEO on Feb. 1, issued an
internal memo saying Sobbott is interested in being a CEO and therefore will explore
opportunities outside Amex.
Squeri is replacing current Amex president and CEO
Ken Chenault, who also is leaving the company in February.
Amex has not named a successor for Sobbott, who has worked
for Amex for 27 years and became president
of GCS, the division which houses corporate cards, in 2014, when Amex
separated its travel business from its card business. She replaced Bill
Glenn, who became president & CEO of American Express Global Business
Travel.
During her time as president of GCS, Sobbott integrated five
commercial businesses, according to Amex. To improve the customer experience
for large and global accounts, she launched several products and revamped
existing ones. She improved relations with small and midsize enterprises,
according to Amex.
