United Airlines reported a $140 million fourth-quarter net income, swinging from a $620 million loss for the prior-year period.
Total passenger revenue for the quarter rose nearly 6 percent year over year. Fourth-quarter passenger traffic rose 2.7 percent on 2.6 percent additional capacity. Total passenger unit revenue was up 3.2 percent year over year, with yield, a representation of passenger fare per mile, up 3.2 percent. United during the quarter collected $21 in average per-passenger ancillary revenue, which Cowen and Company airline analyst Helane Becker called "probably highest among the legacy airlines."
