United Airlines for the three months ending Sept. 30 posted $379 million in net income, up from $6 million for the same period last year.
Consolidated passenger revenue was up 1.6 percent and total revenue rose 3.2 percent, which Cowen and Company airline analyst Helane Becker said was at "the lower end of the airline industry." According to a statement, chief revenue officer Jim Compton was "disappointed by the pace of our revenue improvements, and we are taking numerous actions to improve our performance to more swiftly realize our full revenue potential." United's third-quarter capacity declined 1 percent year over year and passenger traffic rose 0.3 percent.
