Pegasus Buys Independent Res Service

Pegasus Solutions today announced it had agreed to acquire Unirez, a provider of hotels reservations services that works with 3,000 hotels that either are independent or part of small hotel companies. The deal, valued at $38 million, is scheduled to close next month.

Pegasus already owns Utell, a hotel representation business with an inventory of 4,400 independent properties. Yet, the services Unirez typically offers its clients tend to be more technology driven, including Internet-based expertise, than the marketing support Utell provides. By combining these two specializations, Pegasus aims to offer clients a greater range of services overall.

Increasingly, independent hotels and small hotel companies have sought out technology and marketing expertise as they compete against the large, multi-brand hotel companies for corporate as well as leisure business.
