JetBlue Airways in the March quarter posted its 12th consecutive quarterly profit, though at $14 million it was half the year-earlier result.
JetBlue CEO Dave Barger indicated the decline was "primarily due to Hurricane Sandy-related demand weakness in the Northeast during the peak Presidents' Day travel period and higher-than-expected maintenance costs during the quarter." Revenue metrics were positive, including total passenger revenue (up 8.3 percent to $1.2 billion), passenger yield (up 0.7 percent), passenger unit revenue (up 1.8 percent) and average passenger fare (up 1.6 percent to $162.53). According to chief commercial officer Robin Hayes, "successful execution of our network plan, particularly in Boston, and our continued focus on high-margin products and services contributed to the solid revenue results."
