JetBlue Airways eked out a $4 million net profit for the severe weather-plagued first quarter,
down from $14 million in the prior-year period. It represented the carrier's 16th consecutive quarterly profit. JetBlue reported 4,100 flight cancellations during the quarter—more than double the number of cancellations during all of 2013, according to CEO Dave Barger—which reduced revenue by $50 million and operating income by about $35 million. Total passenger revenue, however, increased 3.6 percent year over year to $1.2 billion amid what the carrier described as a "solid demand environment." The average first-quarter fare paid by JetBlue passengers rose 3.2 percent to $168.
