Galileo To Trim Staff Under Restructuring

About 200 Galileo International employees will be "displaced" by a corporate restructuring announced today by New York-based Cendant Corp., Galileo's parent. Some employees are finding out about new roles in calls this afternoon, according to a source within the company. "We're having internal communications and one-on-one meetings along with the announcement," said a spokesperson for the Parsippany, N.J.-based global distribution system firm, which is shedding about 8 percent of its workforce.

Designed in part to streamline decision making by reducing layers of management, the initiative creates the following business lines: Airline Services, Hospitality and Leisure Services, Galileo Client Services, Highwire Corporate Services and Retail Travel Services. Former Delta Air Lines sales and marketing executive Robert Coggin will head Airline Services, ex-Rosenbluth International exec Mike McCormick will run Hospitality and Leisure and Highwire president and CEO Marka Jenkins will retain her role.
