Air Canada's net income in the third quarter of 2014 increased 8 percent year over year to C$323 million,
the carrier reported on Thursday. Traffic increased 11 percent year over year during the quarter, and capacity increased 9.8 percent, leading to a load factor of 87.2 percent, up one percentage point from the prior year. Passenger revenue per available seat mile declined 0.2 percent year over year, and cost per available seat mile declined 2.9 percent; yield declined 1.3 percent. The carrier on Thursday also announced it is speeding up fleet expansion and reconfiguration. It has added two Boeing 777-300ER planes to its widebody fleet and plans to add international business-class and premium-economy seating in all 25 of its craft of that type.
