On April 30, Avianca Holdings CEO Hernan Rincon Lema will retire from the Colombian carrier after three years in the position. Rincon's departure is part of a "planned transition," as he "is interested in pursuing other strategic opportunities," according to Avianca chairman German Efromovich. During his tenure, Rincon led Avianca's joint-venture agreement with United Airlines and the creation of the Regional Express Americas startup carrier. Legal VP and general counsel Renato Covelo will act as interim CEO while a consulting firm helps Avianca's board search for a successor.
