South African Airways and Emirates are restarting their partnership with codesharing on Emirates' routes from Dubai to South Africa, enabling further connections on South African Airways' routes.
The carriers have been partners since 1997 but had paused it as South African Airways suspended operationsfor nearly 18 months due to financial difficulties and the Covid-19 pandemic. South African Airways resumed service on six routes in Africa earlier this month.
The codesharing will restart on Friday, with plans to expand on more routes as South African Airways expands its operations. Emirates also plans to add more service to Africa to expand connections.
